Ryan King knows that any criminal charge—whether rape or reckless driving—can be devastating long before the charge even gets to trial in court. Investigation, accusation and arrest can cost a person their job and destroy their reputation. Conviction can result in incarceration, forfeiture of property, fines, probation, and numerous other serious consequences.
Ryan King focuses on helping people under investigation or prosecution for criminal charges choose their best path forward.
Criminal Defense
Aggravated assault, homicide, manslaughter, murder, rape, sexual assault, robbery, child abuse, neglect or endangerment
Financial crimes, including credit card offenses, embezzlement, forgery, fraud, theft
Drug charges (including manufacturing, distribution, possession, prescription fraud)
Weapons charges, such as unlawful use or possession of firearms
DUI
Everybody makes mistakes. Anyone can get charged with a DUI — all it takes is a mistake. Virginia’s DUI laws are tough, and the consequences of a DUI conviction can be catastrophic.
Virginia’s DUI laws are also complex, and that complexity can help you avoid a conviction if you have an attorney who knows how to use the law to defend you. Don’t plan on pleading guilty just because you might have made a mistake.
Reckless Driving & Traffic Offenses
Reckless driving (by speed, by failure to maintain control, etc)
Leaving the scene of an accident (“Hit and Run”)
Eluding police, felony
Driving suspended or revoked

No, an initial telephone consultation is free. The conversation usually lasts ten to fifteen minutes, long enough for me to get a first impression of a case, answer some of prospective client’s questions and give him or her a first impression of me.
I do charge $200 for a more in-depth case evaluation, which is usually in-person or by video-conference and takes 45 minutes to an hour. That includes any necessary document review or legal research.
-
That’s easy. Call me: (540) 858-5464. Yes, I’m busy, so we might play phone tag. You might get me on the phone sooner if you use my scheduler to reserve a time to speak with me.
If you’d rather send me a message and get a call back, feel free to text me directly: (540) 858-5464.
And e-mail is still useful: king@ryankinglegal.com

For criminal and traffic cases, I charge on a flat-fee basis. The fee depends on the particulars of the case, but I always quote a fee upfront so you don’t have to worry about surprises after you’ve hired me.
-
If you’re reading this, you have enough to worry about already. A flat fee, paid in full, means that at least you won’t have to worry about legal fees anymore. You won’t need to worry that at some point you might have to stop defending yourself because you can’t afford to keep paying to fight. Or that once the case is finally behind you, a huge bill will arrive in the mail.
-
Well, yes.
For a criminal or traffic case, a lawyer should quote you a flat fee for representation in your specific case, not just some generic case. The fee a lawyer quotes should depend on the complexity of the facts in the case, the lawyer’s estimation of the time, effort and skill the case will require, as well as the amount of experience and the degree of specialization the lawyer brings to the case.
If you call three or four other law firms about your case, one or two may quote you fees lower than mine and one or two may quote you fees that are higher. I’m sorry if that sounds cagey, but it’s true. The details matter. If you get a quote from a law firm based just on the charge you’re facing, be wary. Especially if it’s low. Sometimes you get what you pay for.
